Egungun of Lagos in Leaked Video Scandal: Nigerians React

Popular content creator Kuye Adegoke, better known as Egungun of Lagos, has found himself at the center of controversy following the circulation of a private video online. The clip, which has sparked intense backlash across social media platforms, shows Egungun brushing his teeth during a video call with an unidentified woman. In the video, he appears in shorts and inadvertently exposes his private part.

This incident comes on the heels of a blackmail attempt previously addressed by Egungun’s wife, Pashotah. In a statement shared on Instagram, Pashotah revealed that someone had approached her directly with her husband’s private videos in an effort to tarnish their reputation.

She wrote:

“Hi guys, someone is blackmailing me with my husband’s videos. My name is Pashotah and y’all know my husband. Obviously, I know so many people have wanted to bring both of us down, including guys and girls.

“I always choose to ignore, but I’m not ignoring today cuz the blackmailer didn’t go to Egungun of Lagos directly to blackmail him but came to me instead cuz he has a motive of putting me to shame, like he said in his messages above. But one thing he doesn’t know is that this relationship between myself and my husband is not just built today. This relationship has been coming for over 6-8 years when we both had nothing. It’s built on trust, understanding, loyalty, commitment, and so much more. So, nothing can bring us down—not even now.”

Despite her defense of their relationship, the leaked video has triggered mixed reactions online. Many have questioned Egungun’s image as a family man, with some seeing this as a betrayal of his wife’s trust, while others argue the video could have been misinterpreted or manipulated to damage his reputation.

One social media user, identified as #DrPenking on X.com, expressed disappointment, saying:

“So Egungun’s wife watched that video and still had the temerity to come out and defend him? I thought we all agreed that Nigerian women now know their worth. Where was she when that decision was made?”

Another user, Peace Ighodaro, shared a different perspective, stating: “Egungun’s wife is the perfect definition of an understanding wife.”

The incident continues to dominate discussions online, with debates around accountability, trust, and the pressures of public life in relationships.
