‘No Looseguard’- Big Brother Naija Season 9
It is Big Brother season in Nigeria once again, and the theme of this season is ‘No loose guard’ but it really should have been “battle of pairs”. The ninth season of the renowned reality TV show Big Brother Naija began on Sunday night with 14 pairs of 28 housemates, who fans are looking to provide them with excellent entertainment over the next 71 days. The opening night and live show featured an upbeat show that introduced the audience to the housemates, and afrobeat singer Niniola gave a fantastic performance that enhanced the lively mood as part of the show lineup.
This season’s twist? Housemates entering in pairs, adding a new layer of strategy and camaraderie, starting with the couple Zion and Chinwe aka Zinwe who are in a relationship that is just 5 months old. After them were friends Michky and Fairme David, known as the Radicals who confessed that they are both virgins who are in the house with no winning strategy. Just vibes on vibes. Then there is another duo of friends, DJ Flo and Ruthee, who go by the name Flourish and have been best friends for a decade and plan to disrupt all romantic entanglements in the house. The fourth pair, a niece and her aunt, Chinne and Nne called Ndi Nne— also made their way into the house. The excitement continued with colleagues Topher and Sooj, known as Aces, followed by close friends, Shaun and Victoria, referred to as Shatoria. The arrival of well-known female DJs Wanni and Handi increased the tempo in the house even more.
Another set of twins entered the house and they were Tjay and Ben, also referred to as Beta. Friends Damilola and Toyosi, nicknamed Tami, Anita and Nelly, aka Nelita, Ocee and Ozee, aka Mbadiwe twins, Mayor Frosh and Toby Forge, aka Streeze, married pair Kassia and Kellyrae, called Double Kay, and sisters Chizoba and Onyeka, aka Chekas, were also in the lineup.
The housemates had to do a custodian challenge on the night of their arrival, followed by a ballot pick that happened the next day. Unlike previous Head of House games, this one required the housemates to play a ballot game where they had to vote for the duo they wanted to win the challenge and Ozee and Ocee, the Mbadiwe twins, emerged as the first Head of House. Following the voting by all couples, the Mbadiwe Twins and the Fairme Davido and Michky duo were tied, however, the Mbadiwe Twins were declared the victors by the custodians, the aunt and niece pair.
However, the Head of House title comes with a twist this season. The twins will not be given any immunity. This implies that they are not entitled to the benefit of being spared from eviction. The next 71 days will definitely be exciting and filled with numerous hurdles and drama, especially with 100 million naira, an SUV, and other prizes on the line. Fans can expect a whirlwind of drama, laughter, and unexpected twists as these pairs navigate the challenges thrown their way. Who will form the strongest alliances? Which pair will outsmart the others? And who will ultimately emerge victorious in this battle of pairs? There will be betrayal, there will be tears, and there will definitely be drama. Stay tuned if you don’t want to miss the action!
