Davido at 32: A Journey of Gratitude and Resilience

David Adeleke, globally known as Davido, marks his 32nd birthday today, November 21, with a heart full of gratitude and reflections on his life’s journey.

The celebrated artist, popularly referred to as the Omo Baba Olowo (OBO), took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts. In his candid post, he expressed thankfulness for life while acknowledging the challenges he’s faced:

“Big 32 soon! Omo, God is good. Happy to be alive! My eyes don see shege! But steady my fans dey shout shekpe!”

Through the highs and lows, Davido’s unwavering connection to his fans has remained a source of strength. Their resounding chants of “shekpe” symbolize the loyalty and love that have sustained him in trying times.

Beyond his music, Davido continues to inspire through acts of kindness. In honour of his birthday, he announced a remarkable N300 million donation to orphanages across Nigeria. This is not the first time the singer-songwriter has used his special day to give back. Back in 2021, he similarly donated N250 million to charity, a testament to his generous heart and commitment to making a difference.

Davido’s personality is embodied in his iconic quote, “We rise by lifting others.” A statement that has taken on a life of its own, resonating with countless individuals who see its truth in different ways. It’s not just a saying; it’s a philosophy that defines the man behind the music.

While Davido’s music will undoubtedly outlive him, his generosity may become his greatest legacy. Many may match his craft and even outdo him artistically, but the real question when he eventually retires from music is whether anyone can replicate the impact and evoke the emotions he has created outside his art.

Today’s celebration also coincides with the announcement of a special “Davido & Friends Birthday Concert,” a highly anticipated livestream event showcasing the Afrobeats superstar alongside some of his closest collaborators.

As Davido celebrates this milestone, he reminds us that success isn’t just about the accolades but also about resilience, gratitude, and the lives we touch along the way. Here’s to 32 years of passion, purpose, and unshaken faith in brighter days ahead!
